Q. Please could you tell me more about a septo rhinoplasty including the how the procedure is done. Also could you tell me if the nose has to be broken? How long will it take to heal? My nose really needs sorting its so ugly it is really ruling my life. I cant look at people when i talk to them as I’m so conscious of it.,
A. Thank you for your enquiry. A Septorhinoplasty is a procedure which involves reshaping both the bony and the cartilaginous framework of the nose. As the name suggest it involves straightening of deviation in the septum which is the central cartilage of the nose as well as correction of the deviation in the nasal bones and the bony part of the nasal septum. The procedure does, in most cases, involve breaking of the nasal bones specially if the deviation is in the bony part and there is a need for adjustment of the dorsum of the nose. These fractures hidden approximately at 3-4 weeks but the swelling on the nose takes on average between 3 -4 months to fully settle down. The final desert after a septo-rhinoplasty is evident only 6 months after the procedure.
